The qualification Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Young People Level 2 (QCF) is suitable for learners working, or wishing to work, with children and young people. This includes teachers, teaching assistants, nurses, childminders, nannies, etc. including those in voluntary or unpaid positions.
The qualification covers how to safeguard and protect children, young people and practitioners in the workplace as well as how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused. Children are those aged below 16 and young people are those aged between 16 and 18.
This qualification is assessed by open-response workbook. This assessment model requires learners to provide a short response to prescribed questions within a workbook set by our awarding body Highfield.
Successful learners will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding across the qualification syllabus.
This assessment is supported and assessed by the nominated tutor/assessor.
What next?
The awarding body, Highfield will provide us with a list of results stating whether learners have passed or failed. Certificates for successful learners will be dispatched for distribution by Lakwera Services posted 1st class to be signed for, within 2 weeks from achieving the qualification and passing the assessment.
Progression
Upon successful completion learners may wish to continue their development via the completion of the below qualifications/training:
• Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF);
The Childrens Act 2004 places duties on a range of organisations to ensure they have regard to the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This includes the need for appropriate safeguarding training, as employers are responsible for ensuring staff are competent to carry out their responsibilities towards safeguarding of children and young people. This qualification would meet this requirement.

Entry Requirements
It is recommended learners have a level 1 in literacy and numeracy before registering onto the qualification.
These qualifications are approved for delivery to learners aged 16+.
