PERSONAL LICENCE HOLDER COURSE - ALCOHOL LICENCE, APLH- LONDON

By law all sales of alcohol conducted on licensed premises have to be authorised by a Personal Licence Holder. In order to apply to become a Personal Licence Holder the applicant must hold an accredited qualification as this proves they can sell alcohol both legally and responsibly.

Personal Licence Holder qualifications provide candidates with essential knowledge of the legal frameworks surrounding the sale of alcohol in the UK.

 Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH) - This course covers essential knowledge of the legal framework surrounding the sale of alcohol in England and Wales as well as key information on the responsibilities of Personal Licence Holders, duties of the Designated Premises Supervisor, the role of licensing authorities and police powers regarding licensed premises. This licensing qualification is accredited by Ofqual and approved by the Home Office, and has been designed to meet the statutory requirements of the Licensing Act 2003.

Personal Licence Holder APHL - 1day

ALL CANDIDATES ATTENDING THE COURSE WILL RECEIVE A COURSE BOOK IN PDF AND SAMPLE TEST QUESTIONS TO STUDY AND COMPLETE FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE TEST AT THE END OF THE COURSE DAY.

 

PRICE - WAS £125/CANDIDATE - NOW £95/candidate

    • How long will the course take?
    • 1/2 day, normally 4-5 hours, all candidates will receive a training manual 
    •  How is the qualification assessed? 
      • This Personal Licence Holder qualification is assessed via through a 40-question multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 1 hour. Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40.
    • What next? 
      • Every candidate will obtain a certificate providing they have successfully passed the test. The certificates are normally dispatched within approx. 2 weeks. 
    • Age ranges
      • These qualifications are approved for delivery to learners aged 18+
    • A Personal Licence may not be applied for until the age of 18.

PERSONAL LICENCE COURSE CONTENT:

 

  1. Understand the nature, purpose and period of validity of a Personal Licence
  2. Understand the application process and legal duties when applying for a Personal Licence
  3. Understand the legal duties of a Personal Licence Holder 
  4. Understand the roles, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities 
  5. Understand the Licensing Objectives and the importance of partnerships in promoting these objectives
  6. Understand the nature and strength of alcohol and the effect on the body
  7. Understand the law in relation to premises licences
  8. Understand the role and responsibilities of the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)
  9. Understand the law in relation to Temporary Event Notices
  10. Understand the rights and legal duties of the responsible persons in relation to operation of licensed premises. 
  11. Understand the law in relation to the protection of children on licensed premises 
  12. Understand the powers of the police and other authorities in relation to licensed premises
  13. Understand prohibitions and exemptions in relation to licensable activities.

Level 2 Award In Underage Sales Prevention (RQF) - £50/candidate

Group bookings and in house training available from 25% discount per participant.

 

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is designed to support a role in the workplace for learners working or preparing to work in retail or in licensed premises offering age-restricted products and/or services. It allows learners to choose between 5 different pathways, depending on their specific job role:

  • Retail
  • Licensed hospitality
  • Gambling
  • Restricted entertainment
  • Body modification

Entry requirements
To register on to this qualification, learners are required to be 16 years of age or above and it is
recommended that they are working at level 1 in literacy.

 

How long will it take?

Typically 1/2 a day, starting at 9.30-2.00pm - courses running once a month

 

Topics covered

Learners who complete this qualification will understand the age restrictions, legal responsibilities and penalties that apply to their chosen pathway. They will also know how to prevent unlawful sales of age-restricted products or services:

 

1. Preventing underage sales in retail and licensed
premises
2. Know current legislation relating to the sale and purchase of age restricted products 
3. Understand licensing, age restrictions, legal responsibilities and penalties that apply to retail
4. Describe the benefits of recording admission and sales refusals
5. Identify the legal penalties for employers, employees and customers that apply to the unlawful sale and purchase of age-restricted products and services including proxy sales
6. Identify the legal age-restrictions that apply to products and services within licensed hospitality, including the admission of children

 

Assessment method and certification

This qualification is assessed by multiple-choice examination.

This method of assessment is an end-of-course exam.

During the exam learners are required to choose 1 of the prescribed options to answer set examination questions. The qualification is graded pass or fail.

The examination for this qualification must be completed within 30 minutes and contains:

• 12 core questions with a pass mark of 8

• 6 pathway specific questions with a pass mark of 4

 

Certificates for the successful candidates will be despatched within 2 weeks from the course date - these will be issued by our awarding body Highfield.
