Qualification overview and objective:
The objective of this qualification is to support or to prepare learners for employment in adult social care roles caring for those with dementia in England. It covers knowledge on areas such as communication methods, person-centered care and equality and diversity.
COURSE SUBJECTS:
1. Understand what dementia is
2. Understand key features of the theoretical models of dementia
3. Know the most common types of dementia and their causes
4. Understand factors relating to an individual’s experience of dementia
5. Understand the role of carers in the care and support of individuals with dementia
6. Understand the roles of others in the support of individuals with dementia
7. Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
8. Explain how understanding an individual’s biography / history can facilitate positive interactions 9. List different techniques that can be used to facilitate positive interactions with an individual with dementia
10. Explain how involving others may enhance interaction with an individual with dementia
